Ferndale School District Bond Projects

The Ferndale School District’s bond proposal was approved at 62.04% during the February 12, 2019 Special Election – an approval rate that meets the super-majority requirement for municipal bonds.

Thank you, Ferndale School District community, for supporting Ferndale Schools.

WeAreFerndale.org serves as a place to find information and updates about the bond projects.

You talked, we listened.

Ferndale Schools are great but many buildings are worn and are in need of critical repairs. We believe the time is right to replace the high school and repair many of the other schools. We didn’t come to these conclusions alone. We asked you what you thought.

To meet the needs identified by the community, the following projects were recommended to the Board and approved by voters in February 2019:

New High School

$105 Million

Rebuild Ferndale High School on its existing campus.

Performing Arts Center

$2 million

Modernize the Performing Arts Center.

Critical Building Needs

$4 million

Address critical building needs at our other school buildings, like new roofs, HVAC systems, plumbing and structural elements.

Safety & Security

$1 million

Improve school safety by creating secure access with modern doors and entrances and exterior LED lighting.

A Community Process: Start to Finish

The Ferndale School District bond proposal approved in February 2019 includes a Community Oversight Committee. The group is made up of residents living inside Ferndale School District boundaries who will meet 3-6 times per year to provide oversight on bond spending. Employees of the Ferndale School District and the City of Ferndale may not serve on the committee, but all others were encouraged to apply.

The committee responsibilities are to make sure the projects are delivered:

  • On Time, ensuring projects are completed according to schedule.
  • On Budget, ensuring projects stay on track financially.
  • As Promised, ensuring projects match the commitments the district made to taxpayers.
  • With Transparency, ensuring all information is regularly shared with the community.
