The Ferndale School District Bond Story

We want Ferndale Schools to provide a great start to every kid’s future. This is the story of pride in our schools and shared commitment to the kids who grow up here.

The Need

Like anything that has been used and loved for years, our buildings are worn. Some are beyond their useful life. We are fiercely proud of our history but acknowledge that our kids deserve better than vintage boilers and antiquated CTE spaces.

The Process

We asked our community to form a Bond Task Force to help us prioritize our needs and plan a path forward. That Task Force met for five months and spent hundreds of individual hours pouring over maintenance budgets and reviewing architect reports.

“We had a very inclusive community process to develop this bond. There were over 70 people that were involved in the community bond task force.”

Superintendent, Ferndale School District

The Plan for the Future

The Community Bond Task Force crafted a recommendation to the Ferndale School Board. That recommendation included a brand new Ferndale High School and modernization of the PAC, safety & security and critical maintenance projects. Another important piece of the package: A Citizen Oversight Committee that will oversee bond spending.
