Ferndale School District Thoughtexchange

The Ferndale School District is utilizing Thoughtexchange, a public input tool, as one of the ways to engage the Ferndale community and gather input during the pre-design and design phases of the bond projects. Thoughtexchange is just one of the ways the district will be engaging the community and receiving input during the pre-design and design phases of the bond projects.

[Ferndale, Wash.] The Ferndale School District released the first Thoughtexchange results from a two-month-long effort to gather input from the Ferndale Community about the process for building a new Ferndale High School and moving forward with other bond related projects. Results from the Exchange have been compiled into a digital report and sorted into the following topical themes:

•    Building and Campus Features
•    Construction Process
•    Fiscal Responsibility
•    Input and Engagement
•    Project on Time
•    Safety and Security
•    School Programs and Courses
•    Transparent Communication
•    Other

Ferndale School District Superintendent Dr. Linda Quinn thanks the community and talks about what the District plans to do with the results, “Thank you to those who participated. Thoughtexchange results help us discover what is most important in our community as we move forward with our bond projects at Ferndale High School and throughout the District. Specifically, the Ferndale School District will soon be recruiting for Design Advisory Committee members who will help us in the design phase of the Ferndale High School Project. That Committee will review these results and other forms of community input as they assemble recommendations.”

The Ferndale School District will continue to engage with the Community through Thoughtexchange and various other opportunities including focus groups, public events and Town Halls. The first Town Hall event will take place on Tuesday, June 11th at 6:30 PM in the Ferndale High School Cafeteria. Details will follow.

Thoughtexchange Overview

All Ferndale School District residents are encouraged to participate with the Thoughtexchange tool. An exchange poses an open-ended question and is confidential, meaning participants can focus on an idea and not who shared it. The tool reveals and highlights important insights with a list of thoughts and rankings available to everyone.

Thoughtexchange involves a three-step process of Share, Star and Discover.

  • The Share step allows participants to submit a thought or thoughts.
  • In the Star step, participant rate and review thoughts – presented for rating in a unique order to each person.
  • The Discover step provides a list of thoughts and scores.
  • Participants may navigate freely between the steps, and revisit an exchange to add more thoughts and/or reviews.

Please be respectful and polite as you share and rate thoughts. Thoughts that are disrespect, hurtful, off topic and/or identify people negatively are subject to moderation review and removal. Thoughts may be reported by participants as well for moderation review. Also, participants are not obligated to rate all thoughts in the exchange. You can return to the exchange as many times as you like while the exchange is open.
